The Amazing Ways We Became Mothers

It's estimated that infertility affects one in seven heterosexual couples in the UK. From eating a hearty breakfast to sleeping in total darkness, there’s no shortage of unconventional methods to try to boost your chances of getting pregnant.

Singer Mariah Carey is just one of the many celebrities who has openly spoken about her experience with infertility after suffering a miscarriage during her first pregnancy. Carey then gave birth to twins, Moroccan and Monroe, in 2011, after undergoing acupuncture treatment to conceive. It was a procedure that was recommended to her by fellow singer, Celine Dion, who also gave birth to twins after acupuncture (and many rounds of IVF).

And the famous popstars aren’t the only ones who tried something a little bit different in a bid to conceive. Here, two women tell their stories.

NEED TO KNOW

While some unconventional methods might work for some, it's not always a solution to infertility. If you haven't conceived after trying for a year, it's a good idea to see your GP. Women over the age of 36, and those who are already aware they may have fertility problems, should see their GP sooner. There are a range of fertility therapies available, including medical or surgical treatments, or assisted conception. Seek GP advice before trying any lifestyle changes.
