The larger-than-life comedian is still cracking jokes in his 80s

With his huge signature cigars and risque jokes, Ugly Dave Gray formed a legendary partnership with the king of Australian television, Graham Kennedy, and won a legion of fans with his fast quips on 1970s game show Blankety Blanks.

These days, the stand-up comedian is enjoying life on the Gold Coast with his wife of 40 years Valerie and he’s still cracking jokes, even if he laments that his humour is probably now considered a tad out of style. “I don’t really know how I’d go today because comedians work a bit differently,” he says in an exclusive chat with Woman’s Day. “They are less relaxed today whereas I had a free hand, and if I was out of order they would just put a ‘bleep’ in. Humour has changed tremendously. I suppose my humour today would be called old-fashioned, but I don’t care.”
