Coldplay superfan Salvador overcame his illness to see the band perform again

Lying in an intensive care unit in 2016, Salvador Vargas' smile was huge when Coldplay star Chris Martin walked in the door of his room in Hospital General de México.

Then 16, Salvador, who lives in the state of Michoacán, was receiving treatment for Guillain-Barre syndrome, an illness that affects the central nervous system, and can cause muscle weakness and paralysis.

Connected to a mechanical ventilator, Salvador's spirits had been at an all-time low until his mother realised she had the perfect way to make her son smile again.

The launch of the new season of Celebrity Treasure Island doubled as an eighth wedding anniversary celebration for contestant Millen Baird and his wife Siobhan Marshall, who came fourth on the show back in 2022.
