After 22 years of marriage and four children together, Ewan McGregor and Eve Mavrakis’ union seemed rock solid.

But after-shock photos were published last week of the Trainspotting star sharing a passionate kiss with his much-younger co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, it soon emerged that the actor had actually walked out on his marriage back in May.

At the same time, US actress Mary, 32, also ended things with husband-of-seven years Riley Stearns. Now Woman’s Day can reveal it was writer-director Riley, 31, who alerted Eve, 51, of his fears something was going on between Mary and Ewan, 46, after he reportedly discovered some suspicious text messages.

“He found a whole string of inappropriate messages and he didn’t hesitate to tell Eve,” tells our insider. “He was absolutely devastated. He’d had his suspicions for a while and this seemed to prove them.”
