And Woman’s Day can reveal that Meghan’s surprising decision to travel to America to cheer on her friend Serena Williams at the US Open has sparked a major crisis behind palace walls, with the Queen calling emergency meetings with her senior aides in a bid to take control.

“Each week the situation gets even worse,” tells our source. “Meghan is becoming more and more rebellious and appears to have taken matters entirely in her own hands. She now simply refuses to take advice from anyone connected to the royal family.”

Eyebrows were raised when the Duchess of Sussex, 38, left baby Archie at home to spend three nights in the US. Looking happy and relaxed, she was photographed in the stands at the New York tennis event, but back in Britain, it was revealed that Meghan had opted to go to America instead of visiting the Queen at Balmoral. Sources claimed that the Sussexes told the 93-year-old monarch that they were too busy with their charity work.
