Their sweet boy sleeps through his first royal engagement
After nine months of frenzied anticipation and excitement, the world finally got its first glimpse of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s beautiful baby boy – Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Lovingly swaddled in a cream-coloured shawl and wearing a matching knitted bonnet, the newest member of the royal family slept soundly in his besotted father’s arms throughout his first public appearance.
With glowing new mum Meghan looking on tenderly, little Archie was blissfully unaware of the enormity of this historic moment – not only is he seventh in line to the throne, but he is the first biracial baby born to a senior British royal and likely to be the first to hold dual citizenship too.
With Harry and Meghan deciding against an official title for their wee heir, Archie’s birth has come to signify the monarchy’s progression towards a more modern and inclusive era.
And while the new parents had earlier ruffled feathers by rejecting the tradition of posing for photos immediately after their baby’s birth, they appeared genuinely thrilled to show off their adorable boy at Windsor Castle – two days later and very much on their own terms.
Smiling and giggling, a natural-looking Meghan, whose hair hung loosely, said motherhood so far was “magic”. She gushed, “I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”
The baby, she said, “has the greatest temperament in the world – he’s really calm”.
And Harry, 34, who couldn’t take his eyes off his wee boy, said parenting is “amazing”.
“We’re just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy.”
He even joked that while it was too early to tell which parent he took after, “he’s already got a little bit of facial hair”.
