A precious second son is welcomed to the world
With her glossy locks and flawless complexion, wearing a custom-made dress that paid tribute to the late Princess Diana, the radiant Duchess of Cambridge hardly looked like a woman who’d just given birth to a bonny baby boy.
But when she and Prince William introduced their newborn to the world on the steps of the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London, it was less than seven hours earlier that Kate had delivered their third child.
“We didn’t keep you waiting too long this time,” joked proud dad William, 35, as he carefully placed his wee son, the fifth in line to the throne, into the family’s new seven-seater Land Rover for the trip back home to Kensington Palace. “We are very happy, very delighted – thrice the worry now!”
It was 11.01am on Monday, April 23, also St George’s Day and William Shakespeare’s birthday, when Kate gave birth to her third. She reportedly used no pain relief, instead relying on “hypno-birthing” relaxation techniques.
The 3.83kg lad, the heaviest ever son of a royal heir, arrived right on his due date, even though Kate was nearly a week overdue with Princess Charlotte and 10 days late with Prince George. A palace spokesperson soon confirmed, “Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
Designer mum
Proudly presenting her son to the crowd after a visit from her stylist and hairdresser, the duchess, 36, wore earrings loaned by the Queen and a $1000 pair of nude Gianvito Rossi heels, but it was her bespoke Jenny Packham frock that wowed royal fans.
