Let's start with the children.
I live in the southern part of India, Chennai. It is supposed to be a safe haven for women that was the assumption that we poor south Indian women had so far. Even when the most horrifying Nirbhaya case had set the country on fire, we were quite contented, being stone sure that it will never happen in south India. It is a kind of notion that we south Indians have. Only the northern part of India is unsafe be it in the hands of terrorists or in the hands of these insensible rapists’ monsters.
Well, to break our so-called safe haven, slowly many things started coming to light. Be it the horrifying young girl being drugged and raped for a period of seven months by 17 beasts or many cases of young children being raped by their own fathers. Where are we heading to? What really happened to our so called cocoon which we built and lived happily in for years together?
The other day I read in the newspaper about four minor boys who watched pornography and raped a minor friend of theirs. Are we heading back to the caveman age where men used to use women as only a being for sensual pleasure and procreating? Where did our civilization go? When quizzed of few lazy people say the free access to internet in the reason for all this nonsense. They watch everything and anything and they want to put it into practice, only minor girls fall a prey to this. Say, 10 years back have we seen slogans saying “Save children from child abuse”, “Make noise as kids can’t make a noise about child abuse”? No we have never. Why then, is it happening now? Some say it’s the media which is making more noise about it. Well then if they don’t make a noise we would have lived in ignorance thinking it’s a very safe place for us to live in.
