Whether you own a big house or a small studio apartment or a rented place, the form of the house never matters as much as what goes inside – because that’s what transforms any space into a home. Remember how empty the spacefeels after you’ve removed your furniture and other belongings. Without anything to absorb sound, steps echo and can make a space feel emptier than you’d like. Most easily you could lay down the carpet gifted to you by your friends or relatives.

Another idea is to stitch together salvaged remnants of the rag-rug of your grandparents that you found in the trunk. A story can run in the family!
