Seven years ago, when Sujata became a bride her happiness knew no bounds. At that time, she was completely unaware of the fact that for the rest of her life she would share a strained relationship with the man whom she had been so much in love with. She didn’t imagine even in the worst of her nightmares that someday she would be sitting in a one-on-one session with a marriage counsellor and asking for help to save her marital life.
Today, there are many couples who are not happy in their married life. According to a survey, at least one in every five couple needs counselling to resolve their marital issues. The institution of marriage seems to have lost its social and religious essence with the passage of time.
This has become a matter of concern today as it is one of the main reasons that are affecting the mental health of people, not only in the West but in the conservative societies like India too.
However, couples would be relieved to know that, with the help of experts; they can revive their relationship and bring back the long lost happiness in their marital life. Studies have shown that two-third of the couples who sought marriage counselling experienced positive changes in their relationship.
An expert marriage counsellor identifies the critical aspects that cause differences between the couples. He advises such couples to change their outlook towards the situations. Couples are also advised some behavioural therapies that help them resolve the issues on their own.
