Research shows that stress can speed up the ageing process. One study* found that it can add as much as 10 years to the age of an individual immune system cell. Lucy Xu, skin specialist and founder of the London Premier Laser and Skin Clinic, says, ‘High amounts of the stress hormone cortisol will work to break down and wear away the skin’s collagen and elastin, and we need these to keep it looking youthful and plump, and free from sagging, fine lines and wrinkles.’ So how can you reduce your stress levels throughout the week and fight premature ageing?
