RIDER LILY ATTWOOD
“LEON has such a big heart, he really fights for you. He may not have that last bit of scope, but he gives that to you in the way he tries. We have a really good bond now and he was always a clear-round jumper, but when we started nearly five years ago, he was really strong and I didn’t understand him. I tried strong bits, but that made him more stressed – he’s just a stressy horse, who you have to manage carefully to keep happy – so now he just goes in a loose-ring snaffle.
“It was my first year off ponies and I was training with Guy Williams when I got him – he was only jumping 1.40m with Jos Verlooy and that was the level I got him for. I never had these goals in mind. But he’s turned out to be the most incredible horse.

This means the Belgian team, which came fourth, has been disqualified. On 4 September, the FEI said the 10-year-old mare, owned by Kris van Vaerenbergh, tested positive for trazodone, which is listed as an antidepressant on the FEI's prohibited substances list.
