Yes, like most young people today, we, too, harboured a desire to go abroad and work in veterinary hospitals and build a future there but fate had other plans and here we are today. Dr Nikita and I decided to address the need for a full-fledged animal clinic and hospital here in India itself, one that would offer everything a pet needs under one roof. Today, we are proud when we look at what we've built, and how far we've come, from students of Bombay Veterinary College to our respective post-graduate studies to our first, small, SuperPets clinic in 2018, which then moved to a bigger area in Khar (Dr Ambedkar Road) in 2019 and then the SuperPets Hospital in Andheri in December last year.
We juggle between both spaces and have a well-established staff of 13 vets, 50 ward boys, lab technicians and veterinary assistants. Our in-house orthopedic doc is Dr Ninad Manjure and the nutritionist is Dr Dhananjay Pandit. We have Dr Neha Shah, the only fish vet in India, to treat the aquatic animals at the clinic. Dr Nikita largely takes care of physiotherapy and rehabilitation cases as that is what she is specialised in. I handle most of the other cases. SuperPets is mostly a dog and cat hospital but of course, small animals would include exotics, fish, tortoises, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, avians and even lizards.
