BULL'S EYE
Auto Today|July 2024
The pressures of restricting and reversing climate change and saving our planet are immense, as are the simultaneous pressures from the governments and even the most extreme of manufacturers with a fanatical following have had to change tack and the resultant is not a scrambled mess as the name would suggest. We had the opportunity to spend a day driving the flagship of the Lamborghini range in the Italian countryside and discover the joys of a car that probably heralds a new era
BULL'S EYE

Only once before had I driven a car that took in petrol and put out over a 1,000bhp and that was one of the most memorable drives of my life. Since then, I have driven a couple of cars that put out power in magical 4 digits but they have been electric brutal to say the least but lacking not just an emotional connection but character as well.

The Revuelto though posed a conundrum. The mid-mounted 48-valve 6.5-litre V12 churns out "just" 825bhp and is one of the few remaining naturally aspirated engines that are still being produced. It is supplemented on the Lamborghini flagship by not one but three electric motors, each rated for a max power output of 150bhp, thereby giving the car a maximum combined power output of over a thousand bhp. But let me not get ahead of myself and start from the beginning.

The Revuelto is the replacement for Lamborghini's previous flagship, the Aventador and is based on a completely new all-carbon-fibre platform. Its design is an evolution of the Aventador's and draws on the rich heritage of fighting bulls and is an evolution of the ones that have gone before it with various aspects reminiscent of the Diablo and the Miura (as the fans of the brand will immediately point out) while of course there is no mistaking the signature scissor opening doors that trace their legacy all the way to the Countach. The front is sharp, styled with aerodynamic technology that generates even more downforce. The rear is a complex art piece with multiple serrations and layers that sandwich the light elements, integrate an arty spoiler and let out the twin exhaust pipes.

The Y-elements that we are seeing across the contemporary Lamborghinis continue to highlight various elements across the Revuelto. The coolest thing on the Revuelto though is the seemingly exposed V12 that actually is a plastic cover but looks like the real deal.
