I distinctly remember being at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019, when Hyundai showcased its Vision 45 concept car. Featuring a design that I would definitely call radical for the brand, the 45 was a car that reflected back on Hyundai’s history and paid homage to its first-ever passenger car – the Pony. And when I say radical, I mean it in a totally positive way – in fact, the sharp lines and elegant details of the 45’s design left me rather impressed. However, I didn’t know when we would see the 45 in its production form, largely unchanged, looking radical as ever, retaining those gorgeous 20-inch wheels, and finished in one of the few matt paint jobs that, I think, look elegant.
Now, of course, the 45 or rather as it’s called in its production form – the Ioniq 5 – is available in India, and only as an EV. We got a chance to spend a few hours with the car in Goa to test its range and sample its driving experience and overall appeal. so, here’s what I think of it…
