THE TERM CALIBRATION REFERS TO THE accuracy and standard of measurements made with a piece of equipment. The process of calibrating a device involves comparing the measurement values it produces with those of a reference standard whose accuracy is known. A non-calibrated measuring device may have hidden costs and risks much higher than the calibration cost. Wherever measurements are crucial, calibration is essential because it assures users and businesses that the outcomes they track, log, and manage are accurate.
NEED FOR CALIBRATION
Two goals are pursued during measuring instrument calibration. It evaluates the instrument's precision and establishes the measurement's traceability to ensure they are consistent with other measurements. In practice, calibration also involves repairing the equipment if the instrument is out of calibration. The calibration specialist gives a report outlining the error in measurements made using the device both before and after calibration.
All measuring tools gradually lose their accuracy. Normal instrument usage is usually to blame for this. However, changes in accuracy can also be brought on by mechanical or electrical shock, as well as exposure to dangerous manufacturing environments like a lab or machine shop. It may degrade very quickly or gradually, depending on the measurement instrument's type and the environment in which it is being used. The accuracy of the measuring tool is increased through calibration, which enhances the quality of the final product.
