From playing the love interest of a maverick cop in her debut film, Dabangg (2010) to playing a die-hard policewoman herself in the acclaimed series Dahaad (2023), Sonakshi Sinha has come a long way. Despite being the daughter of popular actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha, she faced her fair share of struggles and learnt to overcome them in her own way. Through sheer grit and determination, she carved a niche for herself as an actor. Filmmakers have learnt to depend on her and she has never disappointed them. Like her father, she believes in calling a spade a spade. She has a keen sense of humour and also knows how to laugh at herself. Presenting excerpts from an interesting tete-a-tete.
WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN PLAYING A COP IN DAHAAD?
Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti approached me for the role for the first time. The script was so interesting and gripping that it kept me on the edge of my seat during their narration. And the fact that it was such a strong and powerful role for me to play. Something that I had not done before in my entire career.
DID YOU FIND THE EXPERIENCE OF BEING DIRECTED BY A WOMAN (RUCHIKA RAI) IN A SERIES PRODUCED BY WOMEN (ZOYA AKHTAR AND REEMA KAGTI) A MORE FULFILLING EXPERIENCE FOR YOU AS AN ACTOR?
Actually, a lot of the people on our team were women, like all the heads of departments, so it was a cool and empowering set. It is amazing to watch so many women in action, doing their jobs well. This is the second time I have worked with a female director. The first time was Khandaani Shafakhana with Shilpi Dasgupta. And I thoroughly enjoyed both.
WHAT ARE THE NUANCES YOU HAD TO ADOPT FOR YOUR CHARACTER IN DAHAAD?
