BUDDING STAR OF 'ONE DAY' AMBIKA MOD REVEALS WHY SHE ALMOST REJECTED HER ROMANTIC ROLE

She has won rave reviews for adaptation of tender love story One Day, but actress Ambika Mod had a surprising confession to make ahead of its release.

"When I was first invited to the audition, I turned it down," she said last week at the premiere of the compelling 14-part Netflix series, held at Bafta's central London headquarters.

"Largely because I just didn't see myself [in that kind of role]. I love the book and I love the character, but I just didn't see it happening."

MAKING CHANGE 

The 29-year-old actress, who made her TV debut as Shruti Acharya in the BBC's medical comedy-drama This is Going to Hurt, revealed why she was initially unsure about playing Emma Morley - a character portrayed by Hollywood superstar Anne Hathaway in the 2011 film adaptation of David Nicholls's novel.

Ambika was born in the UK to Indian parents and was not, she said, used to seeing "women who look like me" as romantic leads.
