And when it came to writing her new album C, XOXO, the 27-year old Cuban-American musician decided to dig deep into her personal life.
"I feel as though this album has a different perspective," says Camila, who rose to fame with girl group Fifth Harmony in 2012.

"Before, a lot of my songs were about going through something like a break-up but saying: 'No problem. Life goes on. I'm happy."
"This is more focused on feelings, and how you can go through a break-up and still miss that person even though you shouldn't. It's more complex and indefinite. This is a whole new territory for me."
Fans of Camila will know that she's alluding to her on-off relationship with fellow singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes, which began in 2019. After years of their will-they-won't-they love story, the couple called things off for good last November.
