As a senior royal, the Prince of Wales is used to giving out awards to those who have worked hard

The recipients are not usually of the animal variety, however – unlike last week, when he presented an accolade to a prize goat.

Attending the Royal Norfolk Show, the largest two-day agricultural show in the country, Prince William viewed some of the livestock on parade and gave out awards including the Queen’s Prize, which went to a British Saanen goat called Teion Meika. Owner Teigh O’Neill, 42, said: “He asked about preparing her and keeping her clean.”

At the show, which attracts around 80,000 visitors, William posed for selfies and gave high-fives to groups of excited children who chanted his name, telling them: “You’re the most vocal children I’ve ever met, including my own.” He apologised to one young fan about not being able to watch her sing later that day, but promised: “I’ll try to listen out for you.”
