The 74-year-old monarch was seen waving a Union flag and swaying to the beat during an exuberant set by US singer Lionel Richie in the grounds of Windsor Castle, which was watched by millions of people around the world.
As the sounds of Lionel’s 1983 hit All Night Long took to the air, the King and his loved ones couldn’t help but begin to dance and sing along.
His Majesty wasn’t the only one to get swept away by the music. The Duchess of Edinburgh, looking stylish in a coral dress by Beulah, showed she was a Lionel fan, throwing her hands into the air alongside Mike and Zara Tindall during All Night Long and enthusiastically joining in with the star’s Easy (Like Sunday Morning).
A NIGHT OF CHEERS
Although the main action took place on a specially erected stage on the castle’s East Terrace Lawn, many eyes were glued to the royal box, where a series of moments summed up the magic of the day.
Cheers filled the air from the moment the family arrived until the very last song, and the younger members’ joy at witnessing the grand occasion was clear.
Twelve-year-old Savannah Phillips and her sister Isla, 11, sitting next to their father Peter and his girlfriend Lindsay Wallace, were spotted waving flags during Lionel’s set, while the Prince and Princess of Wales’s daughter Princess Charlotte, eight, not only waved her flag to several of the performances, she was almost word-perfect singing along to Katy Perry and her single Roar.
