With the future King smart in military uniform and the bride in a gorgeous Elie Saab gown, the newlyweds tied the knot in a beautiful and heartfelt ceremony that was both steeped in Islamic tradition and intimately romantic. The Prince and Princess of Wales and Princess Beatrice were among the 140 guests invited into the manicured grounds of the Zahran Palace to join King Abdullah II and Queen Rania for the marriage of their eldest son. Kings, Queens and heads of state flew in from around the world for the historic occasion, with the ceremony followed by a lively reception and glittering state banquet. The Jordanian capital, Amman, was brought to a standstill as people took to the streets to catch a glimpse of their future sovereign and his new bride. Determined to share their family’s joy with “our entire Jordanian family,” Rania had declared: “Al Hussein is your son as much as he is mine — you are his family, and this is your celebration.”
The relationship between Al Hussein, 28, and Saudi Arabian architect Rajwa Alseif, 29, had remained out of the spotlight until their engagement was announced last August, when Rania told her son: “I prayed to Allah to grant you good and to find the one you love. Rajwa came.”
