The royal family was at the centre of another racism storm last week as the Prince of Wales' godmother resigned from palace duties over repeatedly asking a Black charity founder where she was "really from". Ngozi Fulani was subjected to the interrogation by Lady Susan Hussey, who seemed not to accept her reply that she was born and raised in Britain, during an event hosted by the Queen Consort at Buckingham Palace to support her campaign against domestic violence.
The palace was swift to respond, describing the remarks as "unacceptable and deeply regrettable", adding, "It is right that the individual has stepped aside with immediate effect." A spokesperson for Prince William added, "Racism has no place in our society." Royal expert Jennie Bond told new that this incident, coming in the wake of claims by Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, that comments had been made about the colour of their son Archie's skin, "is a disaster for her and the royal family".
