As Sarah Ferguson bravely revealed that she has recently undergone a single mastectomy operation following a breast cancer diagnosis she’s urging all women to “go get checked”. Sarah, Duchess of York, admitted that if it wasn’t for her devoted sister Jane, she’d still be oblivious to the fact that she has the disease.
The 63-year-old spoke about her diagnosis on her Podcast Tea Talks With The Duchess And Sarah and explained to co-host Sarah Thomson that Jane Ferguson Luedecke, 65, had forced her to go for her mammogram, after she almost gave her routine appointment a miss. Sarah said, “It was after a bank holiday… and it was a hot day, I didn’t feel like going to London. It’s easy to put it off.”
Sarah continued, “I always normally do what she says because she gets so cranky. She said, ‘No, go. I need you to go.’” Sarah added, “and she’s right, thank you, Jane” and went on to say “don’t wait”.
Jane may live on the other side of the world in Australia with her partner Ramin Marzbani, but she and Sarah – who’s currently recovering at home in Windsor from her “successful” operation – have always been exceptionally close. The sisters were raised by their dad Major Ronald Ferguson, after he and their mum Susan Barrantes separated, and they have both spoken publicly about their strong bond.
