Jodie Comer said she was "overwhelmed" last week, as she won Best Performance By An Actress In A Leading Role for her one-woman Broadway show Prima Facie at the prestigious Tony Awards.
The 30-year-old actress from Liverpool looked stunning in a black strapless Thom Browne gown accessorised with Ana Khouri jewellery. She collected the award for her role in the sellout show, which transferred from the West End - where she also won an Olivier award back in April to the States earlier this year.
Speaking about the enormous impact the part of Tessa - a lawyer who defends men accused of sexual assault but is then assaulted herself - has had on her life, an emotional Jodie said at the awards, "This woman in this play has been my greatest teacher and I have to thank Suzie Miller for that, who wrote this magnificent piece. Without her writing that, [I] would not be here so this feels just as much Suzie's as it is mine.
Jodie continued, "I feel like I became a woman through her. There are parts of myself that I celebrate so much more now. There were parts of her that I knew where she was from, and her personality I knew - but the sense of self and confidence that she had, I really had to uncover within myself. So, I feel like because of that, I've stepped into a version of myself I didn't know before."
