Drew Vows to Protect Her Daughters
Us Weekly|September 23, 2024
Us shares excerpts from Drew Barrymore's powerful new essay about the dangers of bringing up children in a digital-forward world
Drew Vows to Protect Her Daughters

Parenting is hard - especially in the age of technology. In the new issue of Drew magazine, Drew Barrymore gets candid in an emotional op-ed about raising her tween daughters, Olive, 11, and Frankie, 10, in a time when phones, the internet and social media have power over every choice that we make. Drawing comparisons from her own unorthodox childhood, Barrymore, 49, warns readers of the dangers that can come with autonomy at a young age and why she's decided to make no apologies for doing everything she can to keep her girls safe.

I now have two daughters, aged 10 and almost 12. And I wonder if my life's experience was a butterfly net to capture the understanding of what young girls need. Is it my karma?.... I never thought in my wildest dreams that kids would be in my boat of too much excess and access.
