Angie Asimins SURPRISE BABY!

Staying calm under pressure is second nature for 7NEWS weather presenter and news host Angie Asimus. After 15 years with the network, she's hosted more live TV than she can remember and is used to dealing with the unexpected. But ahead of going onair to present the weather to the whole country on January 24, Asimus, 37, felt something wasn't right. Her second baby wasn't due for another week though.

"It was my second last shift before I was going on maternity leave the next day," she tells WHO from her home on Sydney's Northern Beaches. "I was about to go on-air and things felt like they were niggling. In fact, it was exactly the same feeling I had when I went into labour with my son, Austin, who's now 2."

Asimus made it through the broadcast, but 24 hours later, on her last day at work before her maternity leave began, she and husband Chris Abbott were already cuddling their brand-new baby daughter, Scarlett. "By the time I should've been doing the weather on the 6pm news, I'd already had the baby," laughs Asimus. "She really surprised us!"

Congratulations on the sudden arrival of Scarlett! Did you think she'd be early?

ANGIE: No, not at all. It was all a bit dramatic because I hadn't even gone on maternity leave, but the bonus is I get to spend extra time with her. I'll be on leave for about six months, so every day with her is precious.

She was in a hurry to get here.

A: Yes! The funny thing is, even when I was feeling some pains while presenting the weather on-air, I thought to myself, "Don't panic, you've got plenty of time!" I was in labour for 32 hours with Austin [who was born on April 25, 2020], so I thought I had a while to go.
