Demi Moore - NOTHING TO LOSE

After topping many best-dressed lists following her appearance at the Met Gala on May 6, Demi Moore was a style star at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival, stepping out in a series of elegant looks while supporting her horror film, The Substance.

Fashion moments aside, the actress, 61, had also been the buzz of the festival, with her movie receiving a 11-minute ovation and garnering rave reviews, singling out Moore's performance as a has-been actress who clones herself in the ultra-graphic film from director Coralie Fargeat.

"For those who like thrill and some misshapen aspects and excitement, I think that there's a real thrill and a ride with that," Moore tells WHO of the showbiz satire that tackles the pressure on women to be perfect as they age. "And I think that for those who also are looking for something that has a deeper kind of meaning and point, that it's also there."

The role required Moore to endure eight hours of prosthetics. "The transformation that takes place is really dramatic. It's not glamorous, I'll just warn you," she says, adding that being "un-glamorous" was not what scared her most about tackling the part. "It really required a real level of vulnerability and exposing oneself in a very raw sense... it's addressing feelings of rejection and lack of place and belonging."

Moore has been open about navigating her turbulent life as a high-profile celebrity dealing with her traumatic past. In her 2019 memoir Inside Out, she tells of her parents' addiction issues, as well as her own.

"My essential question in the book was - how did I get here? Because on paper, it doesn't make sense. And to have lived the life that I've lived, to have done all the things. I have no education, I have no background, I was on my own at 16. None of it makes any sense at all," she tells WHO.
