Tallulah Willis was ready to share her story. “Because I am Bruce and Demi’s daughter, I still wonder if it’s OK to talk at all,” she told Vogue in a deeply personal essay in May. “I was reared to keep my mouth shut.”
But now, Tallulah, along with her sisters, Rumer and Scout, are finally speaking out about their famous family’s private life. “Bruce’s deteriorating health has not only brought the family closer together, but the decision to tell the world about his disease has actually been really helpful,” a source says of the action star, who is suffering from frontotemporal dementia. His three eldest daughters, ex Demi and current wife, Emma Heming, announced the diagnosis together in identical Instagram posts in February. “Feeling emotionally tired and a bit overwhelmed, yet also very in awe of the love so many people have for my papa,” Scout says, as her sisters echo her gratitude. “All of the positive responses from fans,” says the source, “have made the girls feel comfortable opening up about their lives and the truth about the parents only they know. Nothing is off-limits, including the pressures of fame, a debilitating eating disorder and a drug addiction that almost destroyed the family. They’ve all done a lot of therapy, and talking about all of their struggles has been incredibly healing.”
CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
The Willis daughters’ shared experience is incredibly unique. “Very few people know what it’s like to be the kids of two of the biggest movie stars in the world,” says the source. “While it wasn’t always easy, they had a surprisingly normal childhood.”
