They saw one teacher on stage rehearsing a dance, and suddenly he shouted in mock anger, "Why are you here? You are not supposed to see the rehearsal!"
The children fled, laughing. They collected their bags and boarded the school bus.
Suman said, "Looks like our teachers are practising hard for Children's Day."
"Wonder what programs will be held for us!" Rita and Janvi jumped in their seats in excitement.
When they reached home, Sujit, Suman's six-year-old brother, asked her, "What were you all excited about?"
"It's Children's Day on November 14, and our teachers are planning and preparing for a fun celebration for us," Suman replied excitedly.
"What is Children's Day?"
"It is our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's birthday, and since he was very fond of children, it is celebrated as Children's Day."
Sujit thought for a while and then said abruptly, "Did Krishnaradha like teachers?"
Suman looked puzzled. Then she laughed and ruffled Sujit's hair, "Oh you mean Radhakrishnan? Yes, he was a famous teacher and his birthday is celebrated as Teacher's Day."
"Your class and the other classes performed dramas and danced on Teacher's Day for our teachers, correct?" Sujit asked.
"Yes, and now our teachers will do the same for us. It is going to be fun!" Suman exclaimed.
