WWDC: Everything we expect to see

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) typically sees the company focus on its upcoming software releases, but this year plenty of new hardware is expected too. With the week-long event starting on Monday 5 June 2023, there’s not long to wait.

One of the most significant products expected to appear at WWDC is the company’s long-rumoured mixed-reality headset, apparently named Reality Pro. This will combine virtual reality with augmented reality and enable you to switch between the two modes using a Digital Crown-like dial.

Previous rumours have suggested the device will come with ultra high definition displays, hand- and eye-tracking capabilities, a plethora of cameras, and a very lightweight design. All that tech will make it one of the most advanced headsets on the market.

However, it’s also expected to launch with a hefty price tag of around $3,000. That could limit its appeal, but Apple is said to be working on a cheaper version that will cost about $1,500. Yet that follow-up device is expected to release in 2024 or 2025, meaning the Reality Pro is the only Apple headset we’re likely to get a glimpse of at WWDC.

The event will also see the Mac Pro updated to finally come with an Apple silicon chip. While this was previously rumoured to be a new, top-end chip called the M2 Extreme, this has apparently been ditched, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. Instead, the Mac Pro could come with the same Ultra tier chip as the Mac Studio.
