SUGAR COSMETICS

On building a business, parenting and being a couple

Vineeta Singh (VS): Being business partners in SUGAR Cosmetics, a couple, and parents to two sons, there are pros and cons to everything. My co-founder and spouse Kaushik and I just take it as it comes. When it comes to responsibilities as parents and at home, he and I have always been equal partners, helping each other with everything from daily grocery runs to school drop-offs. We don't necessarily have a game plan for working together; sometimes we resolve to not discuss work at home, but a lot of times that doesn't work out so we indulge in shop talk at home as well. The good part is that, with our two little boys at home, we don't usually have the option to do this through all the kicking, squealing, laughing and crying. We've also consciously decided to handle different aspects of the business, so we have our own specific roles. Whenever we face any clashes in ideology, whichever of us is heading that particular aspect gets to take the final call.
