NEW CRIME DRAMA
Luther: The Fallen Sun
From Friday 10 March, Netflix
It's been more than a decade since DCI John Luther first arrived on our screens, taking us on a journey deep into London's criminal underworld over the course of five grisly and gripping series.
Now, after four years away, the troubled detective makes a much-anticipated return in an action-packed stand-alone feature film on Netflix - described by creator Neil Cross as 'bigger and better than anything fans will have seen before.
After Luther was framed for murder in the climactic finale to the fifth season, this new tale opens with the detective languishing behind bars, where he's beset by memories of all the cases he investigated and the criminals that slipped through his fingers.
DESPERATE MEASURES
However, when a face from his past resurfaces and begins a new campaign of terrifying cyber-related murders, the disgraced cop breaks out of prison and vows to catch the serial killer by any means necessary.
An old case Luther worked on that didn't really ever get solved or put to bed creeps back into his life, reveals Idris Elba, 50, who's won a host of awards, including a Golden Globe, for his portrayal of the detective.
'Luther is so haunted by this Andy Serkis as David Robey case that he can't help but find a way to get involved. Even when he's a free man, he can't help but chase it and chase the ghosts that get into his head. That's what drives Luther in this film he's very troubled by things that he's done, things that he could have done and people that have died.
The killer in question is soon revealed as tech millionaire David Robey (played by Andy Serkis), who uses sinister cutting-edge software to commit crimes in a world that's been affected by the COVID-19 lockdowns.
