VAN DER VALK
SUNDAY, 8PM, ITV1 DRAMA

Three complex cases, two new colleagues and the reappearance of a former flame will be keeping Marc Warren’s street-smart titular detective on his toes as ITV1’s gritty Amsterdam-set crime drama Van Der Valk returns to our screens this week.

‘It’s great to be back for a third series and brilliant to have some new faces on the team,’ smiles Marc, 56, as TV Times joins him and his co-star Maimie McCoy, 44, AKA Commissaris Piet Van Der Valk’s calm confidante Inspector Lucienne Hassell, for a video chat.

Here, they share their case notes…

We hear Piet and Lucienne will have their work cut out this time with a trio of intriguing investigations. What can you reveal about the stories?

MARC In the first one, Freedom in Amsterdam, we uncover how a group of free runners is linked to drug smuggling. Then episode two, Redemption in Amsterdam, sees us investigate a historic murder, which I really enjoyed because it’s the first time we’ve done a cold case on the show. The murder dates back 20 years to when Piet used to work in Rotterdam, and it comes back to haunt him because of a conviction he made at the time and we discover whether he was right or wrong about it.

MAIMIE The last case, Magic in Amsterdam, delves into the world of the occult. It’s a very difficult one for Lucienne because the case takes quite a personal turn and we get a reveal of something from her past – and that’s quite unnerving for her.
