After collaborating to transform a derelict site into a safe base for Leeds charity Getaway Girls in last year’s DIY SOS Children in Need special, Nick Knowles and his trusty team are delighted to again be joining forces with a group of BBC Radio 2 presenters on another ambitious build.

Calling on the skills of tradespeople and volunteers from across the UK, Nick and friends accepted the challenge of creating a bespoke new centre for Treetops Hospice in Risley, Derbyshire, to provide better counselling and therapy services for children going through a bereavement.

TV Times caught up with Nick, 61, to learn more about the 10-day mission, charted in a one-off BBC1 programme this Thursday…

Why was this special build so important, Nick?

Treetops Hospice is a hospice for adults with life-limiting illnesses, but funding from BBC Children in Need over the past decade has meant they have been able to develop as a leading bereavement counselling service for children in Derbyshire.
