WARREN BROWN on the challenges of playing a new arrival in 1950s Australia...
Lost in the WILDERNESS

Traumatised by memories of war and struggling to keep control of his drinking,  Terry Roberts hoped that swapping dreary Britain for sunny Australia would be a fresh start for him and his family in BBC1's 1950s-set drama Ten Pound Poms.

However, in last Sunday's opening episode, Terry (played by Trigger Point star Warren Brown) found his demons returning when he and his new work pal Dean (David Field) hit an Aboriginal child while on a booze-fuelled drive in their truck.

This week's episode sees a guilt-ridden Terry tell his wife, Annie (Faye Marsay), that he's going to work but he secretly heads off into the wilderness to search for the boy he abandoned at the side of the road the night before.

TV Times chatted to Warren, 45, about his character...

What’s your take on Terry?

I was so excited about playing him, because he felt very different from anything else I’ve done and he goes on such a roller coaster of emotions during the [six-part] series. Terry was a soldier in World War Two and is definitely suffering from what we’d now call posttraumatic stress disorder.
