HER heart broke into a million pieces when she heard her boyfriend had been gunned down in a brazen shooting outside a Durban restaurant.

In the months after the killing of Kiernan Forbes – the rapper known as AKA – Nadia Nakai wanted nothing more than to hide from the world and steer clear from the prying eyes of the

public. But now, eight months after AKA was murdered, along with friend and cele brity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, things are a little better.

“I ’m getting more used to being out there,” she tells YOU. “In the beginning it was very tough because every one was staring at me and wanting to talk to me about things. I was easily made to cry and I was just very emotional.”

Rapper Nadia has just returned from a show in Namibia when we catch up with her at the @Sandton Hotel in Benmore, Johannesburg. She took a month-long break from performing to grieve but needed to go back to work to pay her bills, she says.

“I had a house I’d just bought, my cars and all these things I don’t have financial support for. I had to get up and work through the pain. I had to continue making music and doing things so my life didn’t completely fall apart.”

Nadia (33) recently co-hosted the African Muzik Magazine Awards in Texas in the US and walked away with the best female Southern Africa award at an event where AKA was posthumously honoured with the best male Southern Africa award.
