BEING roasted on TV isn’t for the faint-hearted. There are no holy cows, nothing is off limits – not your looks, your lifestyle, your job, your love life or even your shattered heart.
And Minenhle “Minnie” Dlamini knows this only too well. But bring it on, she says: she’s ready for whatever will be lobbed her way.
“A roast is about not taking yourself too seriously,” she tells us. “I may also get an opportunity to dispel many of the rumours out there about me.”
The 33-year-old TV personality, actress, model and producer will have her chance during The Roast of Minnie Dlamini, which takes place during the Laugh Africa Comedy Festival at the Sandton Convention Centre from 5 April and will air on Showmax on 26 April.
She’ll have her hands full on the day: the roast masters are razor-sharp comedians Tumi Morake and Jason Goliath and the panel includes stand-ups Trevor Gumbi, Celeste Ntuli and Siv Ngesi and media personalities Robert Marawa and Lasizwe.
Minnie says she jumped at the chance to be roasted after declining to take part in the roast of actress and musician Khanyi Mbau in 2022. The roastee isn’t the only person who feels the sting of jabs – panel members are pummelled too and at the time Minnie wasn’t in a good place.
“I really wanted to do it but it was just the height of the mess,” she says, referring to her complicated split from her husband, American-born producer and director Quinton Jones.
Gossip about Minnie’s private life was rampant, fuelled by X ( formerly Twitter) users who claimed she was having an affair with controversial businessman
