Can you describe what your gender identity is and when did to realize the same?
My gender identity is Gay. I knew that I was 'different from a young age, especially through my teenage years.
However, I never had a proper name for my behavior or my feelings. It wasn't until that era of self-exploration that I was able to figure it all out.
Were your parents supportive?
Honestly, they don't understand the difference between Trans and gay, I have stayed out of my house ever since I passed out from school so my parents have no idea. Even if I confess it to them I'm sure they will be in a state of denial. Indian parents can't see their kids as gay because, in India, most parents connect their children's love preferences to the quality of their upbringing. Since they feel that they have been given a good upbringing, in their minds, there is no possibility for the child to have "turned into" a gay man.
What's your relationship now like with your family?
My relationship with my father is good but my mother is cold towards me. She wants me to marry some girl which I can't. I'm sure she is suspicious about my gender identity.
Do you have no plans of letting your parents know about your gender orientation?
Well, one day I will. Maybe if I move abroad then or when I will feel it is the right opportunity. I'd like to tell other parents is that please be compassionate and understanding of your child and don't try to live your dreams through your children's lives because it's simply not fair. Although, it might be true that you have some expectations out of them, but, you cannot expect them to fulfill them.
