'We wanted light stone-effect flooring for a rustic country look, which is also very durable. Jon spray-painted the black light fitting in white so it doesn't detract from the garden view.

HOME NOTES
WHO LIVES HERE? Sarah Reed, a part-time content creator @thecopper beechhouse, lives here with her partner Jon Peasant, a technical director, and their sons Ted, four, and Raffy, two.
THE PROPERTY A four-bed detached house in Warrington, Cheshire.
After building their first home, Sarah Reed and Jon Peasant said they'd never move again unless it was to the house they'd always coveted 10 doors down. When it came to market soon after, it was completely derelict and smelled of mould but the large garden clinched it. With Jon's background in construction and Sarah's flair for interiors, they decided to tackle the renovation, along with Jon's father who project managed the build.
WHAT CHANGES DID YOU MAKE?
'I wanted it to look like our last house with a traditional feel and oak porch, but Jon wanted a more modern look. Although I won the argument, after foundations were laid for the porch, the planners said it would make the house too big so Jon got his way in the end. Looking back it was the right decision as I love how the front of the house looks now. We also wanted the impact of seeing the garden from the front door, so we moved the stairs and created a bigger hallway with a vaulted ceiling. We also added a new double-height extension across the rear.
