The ultimate COMEBACK

Buying new furniture is one of the most exciting aspects of designing a room, but that’s not the only solution to sprucing up your space. Sometimes, all it takes is to give your favourite piece a whole new look – and there’s significant reward in reupholstering a favourite item rather than tossing it out. But reupholstery is not child’s play – here’s what you need to know before tackling such a project.

THE RIGHT QUESTIONS

There’s no doubting the benefits of reupholstering a valuable piece of furniture that is worn or broken, agree reupholstery specialists Larochelle Breytenbach and Rudie Wheeler of Creators Studio: “Reupholstery is necessary when the fabric on the piece of furniture starts to fade, tear or wear out. Proper repair of most furniture pieces can only be determined when the piece is stripped, and the upholsterer is able to look inside the framework,” they say.
