ERNEST EMERSON'S NEWEST BOOK DETAILS STRATEGIES FOR HANDLING DEADLY ENCOUNTERS
BAD GUY WITH A GUN

The threat is out there everywhere - and it's greater than it has ever been. At any moment your life can be impacted by a bad guy with a gun. This deranged person is out there, and when his deadly acts are committed, society likes to apply a convenient label, whether it's terrorist, serial killer, bullied teenager, disgruntled employee, drug addict, mugger, or mentally ill individual.

A life-or-death conflict can occur suddenly whether it's a one-on-one situation in a grocery store, parking lot, or where people gather, such as sporting events, parades, shopping malls, nightclubs, schools, churches, restaurants or other businesses. How can you stay safe?

It starts with preparation, according to martial arts expert and longtime instructor Ernest Emerson. In his latest book, Bad Guy With A Gun, How To Survive The Attack Of An Active Shooter, Volumes 1-2, Emerson details the steps you can take to enhance your personal security against a deadly attack.

"The fundamental foundation stone for being prepared for a terrorist attack or a bad guy with a gun is to accept that it can happen and assume that it will happen," writes Emerson.

In addition, "Surviving any crisis event is directly related to your ability to make decisions, the right decisions, under stress and in the midst of chaos." According to Emerson, thinking about what decisions you'd make in given situations should be part of your preparations. In short, for whatever you might face, have a plan. Up front in a plan is to cultivate a fight-back attitude and a mindset that includes the moral clarity to kill if necessary to survive an attack.

So, what strategies should you take to survive a bad guy with a gun? Emerson breaks down the tactical sequence into his four Protocols for Action: 1. Detect, 2. Evade, 3. Barricade, 4. Engage.
