There's no need to hide your music system away. On the contrary: if you're a music lover it should have pride of place in your home, encourages Mike Blake, founder of The Listening Room. Since 2005, Mike has been giving Durbanites and Capetonians sound advice on how to make the most of the music in their homes. The store has some of the world's best-quality audio systems and gives customers the chance to test them all out - and even bring along their own tunes, if they like.
Modern music systems range from minimalist to sculptural works of art and nowadays, there's something for just about everyone. "It's all about compromise," says Mike. "If you are a big music lover, then you might be willing to re-arrange your furniture to make the best sound possible, and you might not mind the sound system taking up some space. But if you just want background music, then there's still something small for you."
Whatever your needs may be, there are three basic things to consider in your quest to get the tune just right.
1 Set it up in the right room
