Linda Candy and Valerie Linden are making every moment together count. Until recently, the cousins had been absent from each other’s lives for 72 years!

“In the wake of World War II our families were left with nothing, so we travelled together to Australia on the Ten Pound Pom migration scheme for a better life,” says Linda, who still recalls the six-week journey at sea.

It was 1951. Val was five while Linda was four. Settling into life in Sydney, the inseparable girls were suddenly torn apart when their fathers, brothers Charles and Les, got into a fight over a loan. This resulted in Linda’s family moving to Salisbury, SA.
