Lana Wood exclusive - 'NATALIE STILL HAUNTS ME'

Lana Wood has been on a heart-wrenching odyssey for 42 years this November to uncover “what really happened” the night her screen siren sibling, Natalie Wood, died – and she’s vowed to keep fighting for the truth until she draws her own last breath.

Speaking exclusively to New Idea from her home in Los Angeles, Lana, 77, tells us: “I owe it to her as her living sister.

“I often feel Natalie around me, especially when I’m sitting quietly. We had an incredible bond.”

Natalie’s drowning on November 29, 1981, remains one of Hollywood’s most enduring mysteries. Aged 43, the breathtakingly beautiful star of West Side Story and Splendour in the Grass was found floating face down in the Pacific Ocean near California’s Catalina Island.

“When I heard her death come over the news, I was dumbstruck,” recalls Lana, who got her own start in Hollywood playing the younger version of Natalie’s character in the 1956 Western classic The Searchers.
