Despite having completed the Kokoda Track twice and remained at what she describes as a reasonable fitness level, nothing could have prepared Olympian and former senator of Australia Nova Peris for taking on Dancing with the Stars.
"The training is unbelievably intense," Nova, 53, tells New Idea. So much so, her husband Scott and three children, Jessica, 34, Destiny, 22, and Jack, 20, were "quite surprised" she'd agreed to compete for the Mirror Ball trophy, alongside stars including Lisa McCune, James Stewart and Julie Goodwin.
But when she was invited to take part, Nova says she listened to her own advice.
