WE THOUGHT WE'D LOSE HIM'

Jess Lines still shudders as she recalls witnessing one of the worst things any parent can ever see.

On December 8, 2022, Jess watched, helplessly, as her one-year-old son Ryan went into cardiac arrest. The youngster required 10 minutes of CPR to bring him back, but even then, Jess and her husband Sam, both 31, were told their boy probably wouldn’t make it.

“We were so lucky that wasn’t our outcome,” Jess, a mum of two from Broken Hill, NSW, tells New Idea. “Ryan is still with us and he’s a happy, cheeky little boy.”

Jess says Ryan’s symptoms began with a simple cold.
