Apple's Vision Pro is a vision of the future

Mat Gallagher got more than he was expecting after sampling the mixed reality headset now being unleashed on the world

Apple first announced its Vision Pro mixed reality headset at the 2023 WWDC. Until now, though, I'd never tried it for myself - I'd not even seen it in the flesh (or rather, aluminium and glass). I knew what it could do, from the hand tracking and pinching to control, to the life-altering effect of watching Avatar on it. As good as that sounded, I wasn't desperate to try it. With the Vision Pro finally on sale in the UK, it was time to change that.

The device is slightly smaller than expected and felt relatively light. I used the Solo Knit Band rather than the dual loop band, which tightens with a dial at the back. This looks more comfortable but it took me a minute to position it so that the weight didn't sit too much on my forehead or under my eyes.
