In sun-drenched Calabasas, California, designer to the stars Martyn Lawrence Bullard has created a haven that marries modern, Mediterranean-inspired aesthetics with the timeless allure of mid-century design for media personality Kourtney Kardashian.
Built by acclaimed architect Richard Landry, the home clocks in at a sprawling 14,000 sq ft and stands amid the picturesque hills of Southern California, which many of the Kardashians also call home.
The home features in Bullard’s new book, Star Style; Kardashian is a long-time friend of the designer, after the two were first introduced by an old client of Bullard’s who was close to the TV family.
“This home was designed to be a sanctuary for her and her growing family, and a new look that would capture who she is today,” Bullard tells Tatler. “To create a personal space in such a magnificent architectural design is always intriguing and exciting, and working with Kourtney is always a joy, as she is passionate about design and interior design history.”
FINE PROVENANCE
Bullard drew inspiration from mid-century aesthetics. Vintage pieces are juxtaposed against luxurious soft furnishings, while a neutral palette acts as a canvas for an ever-evolving art collection.
Limestone and travertine stones, meanwhile, provide balance alongside honed marble and oil-rubbed bronze doors and windows.
The choice of materials and finishes in the residence also showcases the designer’s commitment to sustainability.
