When Khor Sue Yee was growing up, she had never heard of the zero waste lifestyle. Though her family practised recycling, the idea of actively reducing the amount of waste they generate daily was foreign to them.
While watching some TED Talk videos, Khor chanced upon a talk by Lauren Singer, an American environmental activist who collected all the waste she created in a 470ml mason jar.
The talk inspired her to begin her zero waste journey. She decided to take the plunge when she landed a job as a technical engineer in Beijing. After returning to Malaysia in 2016, she co-founded Zero Waste Malaysia, a non-profit organisation with a community of over 40,000 members.
